'Cette Semaine' is the weekly newsletter of École J.H. Sissons, keeping our community informed of upcoming school events and news. Thank you for checking in here and we hope you all have a great week!
Please remember that this Friday the teachers are on a professional day. There will be no school for students on Friday.
This Thursday is Subway Lunch Day. If you missed the original announcement, you can read it here. It's not too late to get your orders in as the deadline is Tuesday. Thanks very much to our PAC for organizing this day for students.
By now, most of us have heard that there have been two new presumptive cases of COVID diagnosed in the Yellowknife area. Our hope is that the people diagnosed are doing well, and that they soon return to good health. In light of this news, we realize that parents and community measures might have questions about the school's reponse. The answer is this: Business as usual under the 'new normal'. The return to school plans developed over the summer took into account the probability that additional cases would be diagnosed within the community. To date, we have received no revised instructions from the OCPHO, ECE, or the school district. Further, the most commonly-cited protective measures are to wear masks properly, screen for symptoms, and follow good hand hygiene. Teachers will be reminding students that we do our part by following these routines while at school. We also would like to remind parents to screen their children for symptoms every day before sending them to school. If your child has two or more minor symptoms of COVID, or one of the major symptoms, they must remain at home and families should contact the Public Health service for further advice. Doing this helps keep students, staff, families and the extended community safe. We thank you for your help and all you are doing to reinforce these routines with your children.
Late last week, additional short-term parking was added to the school's grounds. Basically the entire length of the traffic lane closest to Taylor Road is now 15 minute parking spaces. There are signs up to help direct traffic through the school's lanes. Please be sure that you follow those directions. Parking is closest to Taylor Road. Drop off (meaning drivers must remain with their cars) is the lane closest to the school. The flow-through lane is in between those two. Please watch for the signs, slow down, and follow the instructions of the staff outdoors on traffic duty. Thanks for keeping everyone safe!
We still have a few Chromebook laptops and library books that were borrowed last year, and haven't yet been returned to the school. Please take a moment to look around to see if you have anything belonging to the school at home. We appreciate you returning them as soon as possible. Thanks for your help with this.
